چکیده

Abstract. The retrieval algorithm for CO2 column mixing ratio from measurements of a pulsed multi-wavelength integrated path differential absorption (IPDA) lidar is described. samples the shape 1572.33 nm line at multiple wavelengths. uses least-squares fit between computed layered atmosphere model and that sampled by lidar. In addition to column-average dry-air mole fraction (XCO2), several other parameters are also solved simultaneously fit. These include Doppler shift received laser signal wavelength, product surface reflectivity atmospheric transmission, linear trend in receiver's spectral response. can be used solve average water vapor ratio, which produces secondary wings under humid conditions. linearized about expected XCO2 value, allows use standard fitting method software tools. deviation retrieved obtained covariance matrix averaging kernel provided similarly passive trace-gas measurements. Examples presented using retrieve NASA Goddard airborne Sounder were made constant altitude during spiral-down profile maneuvers.

An Architecture Providing Depolarization Ratio Capability for a Multi-Wavelength Raman Lidar: Implementation and First Measurements

A new architecture for the measurement of depolarization produced by atmospheric aerosols with a Raman lidar is presented. The system uses two different telescopes: one for depolarization measurements and another for total-power measurements. The system architecture and principle of operation are described. The first experimental results are also presented, corresponding to a collection of atmo...

Airborne Measurements of CO2 Column Concentration and Range Using a Pulsed Direct-Detection IPDA Lidar

We have previously demonstrated a pulsed direct detection IPDA lidar to measure range and the column concentration of atmospheric CO2. The lidar measures the atmospheric backscatter profiles and samples the shape of the 1,572.33 nm CO2 absorption line. We participated in the ASCENDS science flights on the NASA DC-8 aircraft during August 2011 and report here lidar measurements made on four flig...

Linear estimation of particle bulk parameters from multi-wavelength lidar measurements

An algorithm for linear estimation of aerosol bulk properties such as particle volume, effective radius and complex refractive index from multiwavelength lidar measurements is presented. The approach uses the fact that the total aerosol concentration can well be approximated as a linear combination of aerosol characteristics measured by multiwavelength lidar. Therefore, the aerosol concentratio...

Benefit of depolarization ratio at λ = 1064 nm for the retrieval of the aerosol microphysics from lidar measurements

A better quantification of aerosol properties is required for improving the modelling of aerosol effects on weather and climate. This task is methodologically demanding due to the diversity of the microphysical properties of aerosols and the complex relation between their microphysical and optical properties. Advanced lidar systems provide spatially and temporally resolved information on the ae...
